Several individuals are suing the city of Beaumont, alleging a city employee caused a motor vehicle collision nearly two years ago.

Angline Guillory, Danette Ivey and Ronicia Segura, next of friend of minor Christopher Bushnell, filed the suit against the city and Howard Lewis Sr. on Jan. 7 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 21, 2011, the plaintiffs were stopped at a traffic light at West Lucas in Beaumont when Lewis, a city employee driving a city issued vehicle, rear-ended them.

“The force of the impact caused the injuries and damages herein described,” the suit states.

The suit accuses Lewis of negligently failing to keep a proper lookout, control his rate of speed and also driving in a reckless manner.

The suit further states the city of Beaumont is liable for negligence of its employee, since Lewis was acting in the course and scope of his employment with the city.

The plaintiffs are suing for their alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages.

Houston attorney Juan Zamora represents them.
