Coaches who rest and don’t play their top players may have more to worry about than losing the game.
According to ESPN, Miami lawyer Larry McGuinness has filed a class action suit against the San Antonio Spurs for withholding top players in a Nov. 29 away game against the Miami Heat.
The suit was filed Jan. 14 in Miami-Dade County, Fla.
In his suit, McGuinness says he paid a premium price for tickets to see super stars Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, who did not play and were sent home by Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich before the game.
Popovich was fined $250,000 by the National Basketball Association for sending the players home to rest without the informing the league.
ESPN reports that McGuinness contends that he "suffered economic damages" as a result of paying a premium price for a ticket that should have cost less because of the stars’ absence.
The suit further accuses the Spurs of deceptive trade practices.
Despite the absence of Popovich’s top players, the Heat barley beat the Spurs 105 to 100 that night.
