A woman has filed suit against the allegedly intoxicated driver who she claims left a minor child lying in the middle of the road after striking her.
Roshanda Lemelle claims minor Desilvia Harvey was walking along the road at an unspecified section of Jefferson County on June 5 when defendant Sasha Violet Howells struck Harvey, then left the scene.
Because of the collision, Harvey experienced physical pain and mental suffering, incurred medical costs, lost earnings and her earning capacity and sustained physical impairment and physical disfigurement, according to the complaint filed Feb. 22 in Jefferson County District Court. She also suffered emotional distress and lost her ability to enjoy life, the suit states.
Lemelle blames Sasha Violet Howells for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to yield the right-of-way, lacked proper control, failed to timely apply her brakes and drove while intoxicated.
She also names David and Michelle Howells as defendants, saying Sasha Violet Howells was driving their vehicle at the time of the collision.
In her complaint, Lemelle is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
