Driver sued over collision

Portnerbond e1349383603939

Two Jefferson County residents have filed suit against the driver who they claim struck them while in the midst of a turn.

Jamerie Redus and Sharice Harrell claim they were driving east in the 4500 block of College Street on Sept. 30 when defendant Freddie King, who was driving west, failed to yield the right-of-way while attempting to make a left-hand turn and struck their vehicle on Sept. 30, 2012.

Because of the collision, Redus and Harrell incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering and endured physical impairment and mental anguish, according to the complaint filed Feb. 19 in Jefferson County District Court.

The plaintiffs blame King for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to yield the right-of-way.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

J. Trenton Bond and Chris M. Portner of Portner Bond in Beaumont will be representing them.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
