Drivers sued over multi-car rear-end collisions

A woman has filed suit against the drivers who she claims caused a rear-end collision.

Lesley Shores claims she was riding in vehicle traveling west in the 800 block of West Highway 73 on Aug. 16, 2011, when defendant Ronald Gene Wagner failed to control his speed and struck the back of Tristan D. Citizen’s vehicle.  In turn, Citizen rear-ended the vehicle in which Shores was riding, according to the complaint filed Feb. 27 in Jefferson County District Court.

Because of the collision, Shores incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering, endured physical impairment and lost earnings, the suit states. In addition, she suffered mental anguish, the complaint says.

Shores blames Wagner for causing the collision, saying he negligently drove too fast, failed to properly apply his brakes, failed to keep a safe distance between his vehicle and the one in front of him and failed to keep a proper lookout.

She also names Citizen as a defendant, saying he negligently failed to keep a safe distance between his vehicle and the one in which Shores was riding, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast and failed to apply his brakes.

In her complaint, Shores is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Chris M. Portner and J. Trenton Bond of Portner Bond in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
