Area residents Odis Briggs and Clara Sells are suing State Farm Automobile Insurance Co. in order to recover benefits following an automobile collision.

The suit was filed March 20 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 8 the plaintiffs were traveling on Highway 69 when a dump truck veered into their lane, forcing Briggs off the road and causing him to strike a cement barricade. The unknown dump truck driver left the scene.

Briggs suffered injuries to his right arm, left leg and back. Sells suffers from headaches and blurred vision as a result of the wreck.

State Farm covered Briggs at the time of the incident, and the plaintiffs notified the company that they intended to claim uninsured benefits, the suit states.

The plaintiffs are suing for their alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain and impairment.

Beaumont attorney Clay Dugas represents them.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, is assigned to the case.
