Union files suit against tenants

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers filed a lawsuit against its tenants, alleging they failed to make payments due under the terms of a lease agreement.

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers and Long Star District Lodge AFL-CIO claim they leased property at 87 Interstate Highway 10 North, Suite 102, in Beaumont to defendants GreenTree Administrators.

Since the original lease agreement on Sept. 1, 1995, there have been six modifications to the agreement, according to the complaint filed March 25 in Jefferson County District Court.

However, beginning in May 2012, GreenTree and the remaining defendants – Union Treatment Centers, GreenTree Health, Greentree Administrators and Billy D. Lindsey – failed to make the required payments owed under the lease agreement, the suit states.

Although the plaintiffs have demanded payment for the leased premises, the defendants have failed to remit the money, the complaint says. In turn, the plaintiffs claim they sent the defendants an eviction notice on Feb. 26.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking actual damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney’s fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.

John Werner of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont will be representing them.
