GALVESTON - La Marque local Ceava D. Laster is suing another La Marque resident over a two-vehicle accident that allegedly sent her into a wall, recent court documents say.

Laster's lawsuit, filed May 1 in Galveston County District Court, attributes the July 3, 2012, wreck in the parties' city to Arsenio Oswaldo Medrano-Escobar.

The motorists were traveling in the 2600 block of FM 1765 prior to the subject accident.

According to the suit, the defendant attempted to change lanes in an unsafe manner and swerved into Laster's lane.

"In an attempt to avoid the collision, the plaintiff took evasive action, causing her to leave the roadway, strike a cinder block wall and a cement pillar, and come to rest in a public parking lot," it says.

"The impact of the collision damaged plaintiff Ceava D. Laster's vehicle and inflicted injury upon Ceava D. Laster."

Medrano-Escobar is blamed for:

  • Failing to keep a proper lookout;

  • Failing to turn his vehicle away in an effort to avoid contact;

  • Failing to maintain said vehicle in a single lane of traffic; and

  • Failing to execute a safe lane change.

Consequently, Laster seeks $43,783.50 in damages.

She is represented by attorney David L. Godsey of Godsey Martin, P.C. in Houston.

Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Michelle Slaughter is presiding over the case.
