Man blames driver for striking his vehicle head on

A Beaumont man claims he suffered serious and permanent injuries after a driver crossed the center lane and struck his vehicle.

Cody Dent filed a lawsuit April 29 in Jefferson County District Court against Keandra Walker.

In his complaint, Dent claims he drove north in the left lane at the 400 block of Fourth Street on May 7, 2011, at about 9:50 p.m. when Walker, who was driving south on the same road, crossed the center lane and struck Dent’s vehicle head-on.

In addition to his injuries, Dent experienced physical pain, endured mental anguish, lost wages, lost his earning capacity and sustained physical impairment, according to the complaint. He also suffered disfigurement and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Dent blames Walker for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to control the speed of her vehicle, drove in a careless and reckless manner, failed to timely apply her brakes, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to pay full attention while driving, failed to reduce her speed before colliding with another vehicle and failed to remain attentive to her surroundings.

In his complaint, Dent is seeking actual damages, plus repair costs, court costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.

T. Christopher Lewis of Houston will be representing him.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
