Man suffered lower back injuries following collision

A Beaumont man claims he suffered lower back injuries when a driver failed to stay within a single lane and struck his vehicle.

Michael Morales filed a lawsuit May 29 in Jefferson County District Court against Louis Hebert II and Todd Jamal Hockless.

In his complaint, Morales alleges Hebert, who was driving a vehicle owned by Hockless, failed to remain within a single lane of traffic while driving in Beaumont on Aug. 19, 2011, and crashed into Morales’s vehicle.

In addition to his lower back injuries, Morales has been forced to undergo extensive therapy, incurred medical costs and experienced physical pain and suffering because of the collision, according to the complaint. He also suffered mental anguish and physical impairment, endured disfigurement and lost wages and his earning capacity, the suit states.

Morales blames Hebert for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to drive within a single lane, failed to timely apply his brakes, drove too fast and failed to keep proper control of his vehicle.

In his complaint, Morales seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Lori L. Brown and Jeff Musselwhite of Brown and Musselwhite in Houston will be representing him.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Jefferson County District Court case number: E194-387.
