HOUSTON - Houston resident Patricia Lyons seeks damages from First Street Hospital L.P., claiming she was fired for complaining about alleged sexual harassment.
A lawsuit filed June 3 in Houston federal court explains that Lyons heard a surgeon make inappropriate remarks about a patient he was operating on and filed a report.
First Street hired the plaintiff as a certified surgical technologist on Nov. 22, 2010.
Lyons recalls assisting two physicians with repairing a man's hernia when they used obscene language before and during the operation.
According to the complainant, the doctors also inappropriately touched the man and said vulgar things about him.
The original petition further shows one of them purportedly quipped that the patient "now can get him some sex" just as the surgery ended.
The same doctor then proceeded to play with the man's private parts much to Lyons's digust, the suit says.
Shortly after the procedure, Lyons lodged a complaint and was instructed by the operating room supervisor to write a letter.
She states the letter was seen by the supervisor and ultimately sent to the hospital's human resources manager.
First Street fired Lyons afterwards, which she alleges was rooted in gender-based discrimination.
A jury trial is requested.
