Claiming a crane line threw him 20 feet in the air, longshoreman Patrick Green Jr. has filed suit against Ricchi Navigation and Meadway Shipping & Trading.
The suit was filed June 4 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on May 22 Green was employed by James J. Flanagan Shipping and was loading sacks of rice aboard a bulk carrier owned and operated by the defendants.
While in the course of his work, Green was jerked up by a crane line when the crane malfunctioned, throwing him more than 20 feet in the air.
“He struck the bottom of the main deck, and fell back onto the sacks of rice, landing on his feet and seriously injuring his head, neck, both legs, both knees, back and other parts of his body,” the suit states.
The suit accuses the defendants of negligence but does not list any specific acts of negligence.
The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages.
He is represented by the Houston Law Office of Richard Schechter.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
