GALVESTON - In response to her "forced retirement" from STP Nuclear Operating Co., Wanda Redd has filed a lawsuit.
Court documents filed June 6 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas state that the matter in question allegedly arose from Redd taking leave because of an illness triggered by a personal family tragedy.
Redd mulled early retirement, but reconsidered after a change in her condition and circumstances.
Her physician recommended she return to work "to help her physically and emotionally" starting with a part-time schedule, but the defendant later told her via e-mail not to come back, the suit says.
It further asserts that the company e-mailed Redd again saying her job duties had been reassigned and there were no other positions she could apply for.
Her dismissal was coded as "retirement," the original petition says, though the complainant had a decade to go.
According to Redd, the respondent permitted several male employees to either retire or make arrangements or express the intent to retire "in a manner similar to her then change their mind and were allowed to return to work in either the same or similar position."
A jury trial is requested.
