A woman claims her insurance company insufficiently paid her for damages she sustained in an automobile collision.

Lachelle Lavalais filed a lawsuit July 23 in Jefferson County District Court against Farmers Texas County Mutual Insurance Co.

In her complaint, Lavalais claims she drove a 2003 black Dodge Neon on Oct. 22, 2009, when a 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by Jose Carvajal struck her vehicle from behind.

At the time of the collision. Lavalais had insurance through Farmers Texas County Mutual Insurance. Her policy was supposed to cover damages of up to $100,000, according to the complaint.

However, Farmers Texas County Mu failed to adequately compensate Lavalais for her injuries, the suit states.

In her complaint, Lavalais is seeking damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.

Clay Dugas and Cody Rees of Clay Dugas and Associates in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Case No. B194-553
