A Groves man has filed suit against the driver who he claims failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign, causing him to sustain neck, back, arm and shoulder injuries.
Billy Williams claims he was driving south on Main Avenue in Groves on June 10 when defendant Charity Nicole Cavazos, who was driving west on Terrell Road, failed to yield at a stop sign and slammed into the side of Williams’s vehicle, causing it to strike a utility pole.
Because of the accident, Williams sustained injuries to his neck, back, arms and shoulders; suffered severe pain and endured a lost ability to perform some of his daily living activities, according to the complaint filed July 26 in Jefferson County District Court.
He also incurred medical costs; endured mental anguish, physical pain and suffering; lost his earning capacity; and suffered physical impairment, the suit states.
Cavazos negligently failed to stop at a stop sign, failed to keep a proper lookout, disregarded a stop sign and drove inattentively, the complaint says.
In his complaint, Williams is seeking damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.
He will be represented by Clay Dugas and Cody Rees of Beaumont.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
