Wayne Reaud’s charity sued over dog attack

A charity founded by well-known plaintiff’s attorney Wayne Reaud is being sued over an alleged dog bite.

Mary Staffeld filed suit against The Reaud Charitable Foundation and Michael Cougat on Aug. 12 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on April 14, 2012, Staffeld was attacked and bitten by a blue heeler at the defendants’ premises on Folsom Drive in Beaumont.

“Unbeknownst to the plaintiff, the dog in question had previously attacked and/or bitten at least one other person causing injury,” the suit states. “Although defendants were fully aware of the unprovoked attack by the dog upon another, defendants failed to … warn plaintiff.”

The suit does not state what Staffeld was doing at the time of the alleged attack.

Seeking damages in amount no more than $500,000, the plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages

Houston attorney Paul Cannon of Simmons & Fletcher represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
