SHERMAN - A former Starbucks store manager has filed a lawsuit claiming she was terminated from her position because of her age.
Amy Robinson filed suit against Starbucks Corp., doing business as Starbucks Coffee Co., on Sept. 10 in the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division.
Robinson was hired by Starbucks as a barista in October 2003 and was eventually promoted to store manager. In July 2013, she was replaced with a less experienced 27 year old, the suit claims.
The defendant is accused of age and gender discrimination and retaliation in violation of her civil rights and the Age Discrimination Employment Act.
The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for back pay, front pay, compensation for loss of employee benefits, additional compensatory damages for mental anguish, pain, and suffering, liquidated damages and exemplary damages, interest, attorney’s fees and court costs.
Robinson is represented by Jeffrey D. Smith and Barbara T. Hale of Blanscet Hooper & Hale LLP in Addison. A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Richard A. Schell is assigned to the case.
