Man blames driver for causing collision after turning in front of him

A Jefferson County resident claims he incurred medical costs after a driver turned in front of him and caused a collision.

Melvin Adams filed a lawsuit Sept. 12 in Jefferson County District Court against Angel Longoria.

In his complaint, Adams alleges he drove east on 19th Street on May 3, 2012, when Longoria, who was driving west on the same street, turned in front of him and caused a collision.

In addition to his medical costs, Adams experienced physical pain and suffering, endured physical impairment and suffered mental anguish, according to the complaint.

Adams blames Longoria for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, made an unsafe left turn and failed to timely apply his brakes.

In his complaint, Adams seeks a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

J. Trenton Bond and Chris M. Portner of Portner & Bond in Beaumont will be representing him.
