Local motorist sues over recent head-on collision

GALVESTON - Local resident Steven Robinson has filed a lawsuit against Apache Global Painting Inc. and one of its employees following an auto collision in Hitchcock over the summer, recent court documents say.

Robinson's suit, filed Oct. 23 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 3, explains that Apache worker and Santa Fe local Manfred Axel Scheunemann made an illegal lane change and crashed into the plaintiff's vehicle last July 9.

Robinson was traveling northbound on FM 2004 prior to the subject accident.

Meanwhile, Scheunemann, who was driving a truck belong to his employer, crossed the centerline of 2004, triggering the alleged incident, the suit says.

It further shows that the "severe head-on" crash caused Robinson's car to roll over.

Scheunemann is faulted for:

  • Failing to drive on the right hand side of the road;

  • Failing to stay within his marked lane;

  • Failing to yield the right-of-way;

  • Failing to maintain a proper lookout;

  • Failing to control speed;

  • Failing to timely apply brakes;

  • Failing to take proper evasive actions; and

  • Failing to signal a left hand turn.

Apache is blamed for hiring, training and retaining the driver as well as negligently entrusting one of its vehicles to him.

Consequently, Robinson seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

He is represented by attorney John G. Zgourides of The Woodlands.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County Court-at-Law No. 3 Judge Kerri M. Foley.
