Man alleges collapse of truck stairs led to injury

Beaumont local Arthur Thomas is suing Lewis Specialties and Antonio Lewis for injuries he claims he received when stairs on a truck collapsed.

The suit was filed Nov. 21 in Jefferson County District Court and seeks less than $500,000 in damages.

According to the lawsuit, on Nov. 4 Thomas was employed by Lewis Specialties and was injured when the stairs on a truck collapsed, causing him to fall approximately 4 feet and break his right femur and right foot.

The suit accuses the defendants of negligently failing to provide him with a safe place to work, failing to warn him the truck was not safe and providing him with defective equipment.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish and lost wages.

He is represented by Jill S. Chatelain of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele & Chatelain in Port Arthur.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, is assigned to the case.
