Discovery is proceeding in a medical malpractice lawsuit over a man’s nerve damage.
As previously reported, Lonnie Rodgers Sr. filed suit against The Medical Center of Southeast Texas and nurse Dennis Griffiths on Dec. 21, 2102, in Jefferson County District Court, alleging his sciatic nerve was injured during an injection more than two years ago.
One of the last filings in the suit came Nov. 8 -- a certificate of discovery showing the defendants gave their second supplemental response to plaintiff’s request for disclosure.
According to the lawsuit, on Oct. 29, 2010, Rodgers went to the medical center’s emergency room, where Griffiths injected his right hip with Demerol and Zofran.
“Unfortunately, Griffiths failed to exercise ordinary care and failed to follow the standard of care in injecting the medications and injected one or more nerves, causing immediate pain and continuing disability,” the suit states, adding the defendant should have known he was injecting at a site where there is an increased risk of injuring the sciatic nerve.
Griffiths was employed by the Medical Center at the time of the incident.
The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages.

The defendants are represented by attorney Curry Cooksey of Cooksey & Marcin.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
