LUFKIN - The former assistant city secretary for the city of Huntington has filed a lawsuit claiming she was terminated as a result of her age.

Betsy Gregson filed suit against city of Huntington, Andy Spivey and Ina Cardwell on Dec. 20 in the Eastern District of Texas, Lufkin Division. 

Gregson was hired by the city as the assistant city secretary in September 1998.

In May 2013, two city council members allegedly told Gregson that she was “too old” and had to be terminated, the suit claims At the time of her wrongful termination, Gregson was planning on working an additional three years, according to the suit.

The defendant is accused of alleged violations of the Federal Age Discrimination and Employment Act, discrimination in violation of the American’s with Disabilities Act, and violation of the Texas Labor Code.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of compensatory or actual damages, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, loss of wages and benefits, front pay, punitive damages, attorney’s fees and court costs.

Gregson is represented by John S. Morgan of Morgan Law Firm in Beaumont.

A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Ron Clark is assigned to the case.
