GALVESTON - A Galveston man has filed a lawsuit over a single-vehicle accident he says was caused by an impaired motorist.

Jose Alcocer Jr. is suing Jade Katheryne Turn, also of Galveston, for the Jan. 10, 2012, event in question in Galveston County Court at Law No. 1.

Court papers filed Jan. 10 show that Turn was driving a vehicle belonging to her lone passenger, Donna Shunkweiler, in the 4000 block of Avenue O when the former lost control of said vehicle.

According to the original petition, Turn proceeded to strike two vehicles situated in the area and crashed into Alcocer's fence and property, including his own vehicle.

Turn is blamed for:

  • Failing to drive in a single lane;

  • Failing to maintain a proper lookout;

  • Failing to apply her brakes;

  • Failing to take evasive maneuvers; and

  • Operating the vehicle while in an impaired state.

Meanwhile, Shunkweiler, another Galveston local, is named a co-defendant for purportedly allowing Turn to drive her vehicle.

Consequently, Alcocer seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Attorney Thomas E. Quirk of the Law Offices of Aaron & Quirk in San Antonio is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County Court-at-Law No. 1 Judge John Grady is presiding over the litigation.

Cause No. 71,369
