An insurance company is suing Whirlpool for damages caused by a defective washing machine.

Republic Lloyds, as subrogee of Antoinette Mulvaney, filed a lawsuit Dec. 19, in the Jefferson County District Court against Whirlpool Corp. and Conn's Appliances Inc., citing negligence, negligent misrepresentation and products liability. 

According to the complaint, on Nov. 19, 2011, Mulvaney purchased a Whirlpool washing machine from Conn's Appliances. The plaintiff says on Dec. 25, 2011, Mulvaney left clothes soaking in the washing machine overnight and the machine leaked, causing more than $30,000 in damages to the house.

The lawsuit states after having the machine fixed by an employee of the defendant, Mulvaney again left clothes to soak in the machine overnight on Jan. 1, 2013, and the machine again leaked, causing more than $21,000 in damages.

Republic Lloyds is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. They are being represented in the case by attorney R. Clay Hoblit of Hoblit Ferguson Darling LLP.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
