Widow says radiologists made wrong diagnosis

A widow is suing radiologists and a radiology company claiming her husband died because of a misdiagnosis.

Allison O. Szabo, individually and as the representative of the estate of Joseph E. Szabo Jr., filed a lawsuit Feb. 25 in the Jefferson County District Court against Dr. Daniel Karnicki, Dr. Prasad Devabhaktuni and Radiology Associates of Beaumont, citing negligence.

The lawsuit states Joseph Szabo went to Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont in December 2011 with complaints of a cough and shortness of breath. A CT scan was done with Karnicki and Devabhaktuni disagreeing on the diagnosis. Cancer was not a part of the diagnosis, the complaint states.

Szabo died Feb. 14, 2013, from metastatic carcinoma.

Allison Szabo is seeking damages between $200,000 and $1 million, including the full amount of actual damages, exemplary damages, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest and court costs.

Szabo is being represented by Steven R. Davis of Davis & Davis Attorneys at Law.
