State Farm Lloyds sued over underpaid insurance claim

A Jefferson County couple is suing over claims their insurance claim was underpaid.

Joseph and Jo Ann Guarnere filed a lawsuit March 11 in the Jefferson County District Court against State Farm Lloyds Insurance Co., citing breach of contract, violations of the Texas Insurance Code, breach of the duty of good faith and fair dealing and violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

According to the complaint, in Jan. 16, 2013, the Guarneres were owners of a State Farm insurance policy when their home was damaged due to vandalism, and the couple believes the company underpaid their claim. The Guarneres say State Farm failed to explain why full payment was not being made.

The Guarneres are seeking damages in an amount to be determined by the court.

They are being represented in the case by attorney Justin G. Sanderson.
