A Texas university is facing a lawsuit after an employee was allegedly wrongfully terminated.


Chinye Michael Onwuemene filed a lawsuit April 15 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas against Texas Southern University, citing employment discrimination. 

The complaint states Onwuemene was hired by Texas Southern on May 1, 2009, to work as a senior accountant and was promoted on July 1, 2010, to accounting manager.

The court document alleges Onwuemene's supervisor treated the plaintiff with contempt based upon national origin, which eventually resulted in the plaintiff's termination on March 8, 2013.

Onwuemene is seeking back pay, $500,000 in damages and reinstatement.

The plaintiff is representing himself pro se.
