A Jefferson County woman is suing her employer over claims she was injured by a patient as a result of their negligence.

Michelle James filed a lawsuit April 16 in the Jefferson County District Court against Not Home Alone Inc., doing business as Home Instead, citing negligence.

James claims she was employed by the defendant as a home health care worker for Herbert W. Becker of Port Arthur. The suit alleges James was not informed by her employer of Becker's health concerns, specifically his erratic and violent behavior.

According to the brief, James claims she was attacked by Becker on Sept. 25, 2012, sustaining injuries to her back that required surgery.

James is seeking damages, interest, attorney's fees and court costs.

She is being represented in the case by Beaumont attorneys Casey Hargroder, H. Scott Alexander and Keith Kebodeaux of Kebodeaux, Hargroder and Alexander L.L.P. and Scott O. Renick of Renick Law Firm PLLC.
