Woman sues state of Texas after crash with prison bus

A League City woman claims she incurred medical costs when a bus rear-ended her vehicle.

Chelsee Stark filed a lawsuit July 25 in the Galveston County District Court against the state of Texas.

Stark claims she was driving her 2004 Chevrolet Impala on 4600 State Highway 146 in La Marque on Sept. 10, when a 2001 Bluebird bus owned by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice crashed into the back of her vehicle.

In addition to medical costs, Stark suffered physical impairment and experienced physical pain and mental anguish, according to the complaint.

Stark blames the state of Texas for her injuries, saying it is liable for the actions of its driver. She says the driver negligently failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to apply her brakes and failed to drive at a reasonable speed, the suit states.

Stark seeks a judgment of $101,000, plus pre- and post-judgment interest at the legal rate allowed by law, costs and other relief the court deems just.

She is being represented by attorney Mark A. Salvato of Houston.
