A couple is accused of defaulting on an agreement to buy the Beaumont home they lived in for more than a year.
Estella M. Wendt filed a complaint against Miguel A. Lopez and Erica Lopez on Aug. 12 in Jefferson County District Court.
On Dec. 16, 2011, Wendt says she executed and delivered to the Lopezes a deed "purporting to convey" a piece of property on Evalon Street in Beaumont. According to the complaint, the Lopezes agreed to pay $499 each month for 96 months to purchase the property.
Wendt says the Lopezes took possession of the Evalon Street property Dec. 16, 2011, and occupied it through July 2013, when they allegedly abandoned the home. Wendt says the couple has failed to make payments on the property, failed to provide insurance and failed to pay taxes, defaulting on the terms of their purchase agreement.
Wendt says the Lopezes owe $31,509 on the property. She is requesting the defendants be ordered to pay the outstanding balance along with interest, attorney fees and court costs.
Attorney Eddie R. Schroeder of Beaumont represents Wendt.
The case number is Jefferson County District Court case E-195972.
