Man accuses United Airlines of age discrimination

A Harris County man alleges his coworkers began treating him differently due to his advanced age.

Wayne Anthony filed a lawsuit Sept. 16 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against United Airlines.

In his complaint, Anthony alleges he opted to accept an offer for a reduction in force early out program offered to United Airlines employees in 2008. As part of his benefits, he was offered pass travel privileges effective Jan. 1, 2008, according to the complaint.

On Jan. 26, 2009, Anthony began working for Continental Airlines. He also had pass travel privileges through Continental, the suit states.

When Continental and United merged in 2010, Anthony contacted the managing director of human resources in an attempt to sort out a potential pass travel conflict, the complaint says. United had decided to modify the pass travel program and locked Anthony out of it, according to the complaint.

He complained about the issue. Instead of resolving it, United began subjecting him to retaliation, which included negative remarks by coworkers and a negative review, the suit states.

Anthony alleges breach of contract against United.

He seeks damages within the jurisdictional limits of the court, plus liquidated damages, interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Attorney Alfonso Kennard Jr. of Houston will represent Anthony.
