A Jefferson County man is suing over claims his Beaumont property was excessively appraised by the Jefferson County Appraisal District.

Michael D. Getz filed a petition for review of appraisal board order Sept. 30 in Jefferson County District Court against the Jefferson County Appraisal District.

According to the complaint, Getz owns property on Twin Circle Drive in Beaumont that was appraised by the review board at an excessive value for 2014. Getz said he protested the order, citing the value as excessive but the board made its final order, despite failing to provide evidence that the property was not unequally appraised, and Getz is appealing that value.

He says the property has been unequally appraised pursuant to the Texas Property Tax Code, making it an unlawful levy and creating an illegal lien.

Getz seeks an order that the board reconvene a hearing on his protests or entry of an order based upon his evidence of an unequal appraisal, fixing the market value of the plaintiff's property and correction of the tax rolls, costs incurred or 20 percent of taxes in dispute and attorney fees. He is appearing pro se.
