A Hardin County resident is suing a Jefferson County-based motorist on charges of vehicular negligence in a 2014 pedestrian accident which he claims resulted in severe and debilitating injuries.
Darel H. Hollinhead filed a complaint against Michael T. Barnes of Beaumont in Jefferson County District Court on July 21, claiming liability in an August 2015 automotive accident
According to the suit, Hollinhead was walking in a parking lot located at 6179 U.S. 69 on or about Aug. 19, 2014, when he was suddenly struck violently by an automobile operated by the defendant.
The complaint states that Barnes was guilty of negligence when he failed to keep a proper lookout for the plaintiff’s safety, exercise ordinary care, reduce his speed and apply his brakes, control his vehicle, steer his vehicle in an effort to avoid impact, and yield the right of way to a pedestrian.
Hollinhead contends that he has suffered physical pain, mental anguish, and medical expenses.
The plaintiff seeks general and special relief in an amount between $200,000 and $1 million in compensation for damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney’s fees, expenses, and costs. He is represented by Justin Sanderson of Sanderson Law Firm in Beaumont.
