A Houston attorney has filed a lawsuit in response to a recent offshore oil rig accident that killed a worker and injured 28 others.
Francis I. Spagnoletti of the law firm Spagnoletti & Co. submitted the complaint on behalf of the victims – all Mexican nationals – on Aug. 6 in the Galveston District of the Southern District of Texas, blaming the event in question on Friede & Goldman, LLC; Friede & Goldman, Ltd.; FG Engineering, Ltd.; American Bureau of Shipping and ABS Group of Companies, Inc.
According to court papers, the plaintiffs, including decedent Isidoro Solorzano Castillo, were working onboard the jack-up Troll Solution on May 5 when the vessel “collapsed in the Bay of Campeche and they were forced to abandon it.”
F & G purportedly designed, manufactured, marketed and sold the Troll Solution.
“Failed by the Troll Solution by virtue of its collapse due to defective design, the crew of said vessel, including the worker plaintiffs and worker decedent, were left to a horrifying fate,” the suit says.
It further states that the complainants sustained physical injuries and mental anguish while Castillo was mortally wounded.
The suit charges ABS with negligence, negligent misrepresentation and gross negligence.
Consequently, the plaintiffs seek unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
