A Harris County man is suing a major international security firm over claims of racial discrimination in the workplace.
Willard Gaefcke Jr., filed a lawsuit against G4S Secure Solutions Inc. on Aug. 11 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas, citing racial discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
According to the complaint, the Florida-based security firm employed Gaefcke as a project supervisor out of the G4S’ La Porte office. Gaefcke’s suit claims that because he’s white, G4S managers intentionally made his job difficult through a lack of support and by refusing proper training for Gaefcke’s team.
The lawsuit states that Gaefcke was unfairly fired for a no-call/no-show violation for a scheduled holiday off, an infraction that non-white G4S employees were not punished for.
Gaefcke is seeking damages for back pay and reimbursement for lost pension and benefits as well as court costs, compensatory and punitive damages from G4S. He is represented by Jakki A. Hansen of the Hansen Law Firm of Houston.
