Jefferson County woman sues Beaumont man, seeks vehicle collision settlement

Carcrash2

A Jefferson County motorist suing a Beaumont man after the parties failed to settle a legal debt and damages due following a vehicle collision.

Polly Smith filed a lawsuit Aug. 3 in Jefferson County District Court against Morris Garrett, alleging negligence.

On Oct. 4, 2014, the complaint states, Garrett's vehicle struck Smith's vehicle when he failed to yield at the intersection of 11th Street and Greenwood in Beaumont, causing injuries to Smith's neck, spine, shoulder and body in general. The suit says Garrett was cited and found negligent for failing to yield.

The plaintiff tried to resolve the matter with Garrett's representatives, offering to settle the claim within Garrett's policy limits, but the lawsuit states his insurance company has failed to take reasonable and necessary efforts to resolve the matter and has failed to accept the offer to settle.

Smith seeks actual and exemplary damages, interests and court costs. She is represented by attorney Gilbert T. Adams III of the Gilbert Adams Law Office in Beaumont.

Jefferson County District Court case number B-197510.
