Mt. Vernon woman sues Ford, alleging negligence in daughter's crash death

A Mt. Vernon woman is Ford, alleging negligence in a car accident that killer her daughter.

Valarie Barela, surviving mother of deceased minor Nicole Barela, filed a lawsuit Oct. 27 in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Ford Motor Company, alleging negligence.

On March 21, the suit states, Nicole Barela was riding in a 2001 Ford Ranger traveling southeast on state Highway19 in Hopkins County, when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and went into a ditch, struck a tree, and caught fire.

The suit alleges Nicole Barela was properly seated and wearing a seat belt, but still suffered fatal injuries.

The lawsuit says Ford was negligent in designing a defective and unreasonably dangerous vehicle, among other negligent acts or omissions.

Valarie Barela seeks actual, economic and non-economic damages, plus costs of the suit. She is represented by attorneys E. Todd Tracy, Stewart D. Matthews and Andrew G. Counts of The Tracy Firm in Dallas.
