SHERMAN – A Denton County man is suing a collection agency, alleging it sullied his credit when it did not report he was disputing a debt.

Alizain Yasin filed a lawsuit Dec. 14 in the Sherman Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Alliance One Receivables Management, Inc. alleging a violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.

According to the complaint, Yasin was disputing an alleged debt with Alliance One Receivables with a dispute letter Feb. 26. The suit says he examined his credit report again April 14, and found Alliance One Receivables had re-reported the alleged debt to credit bureaus in March.

The lawsuit states, when Alliance One Receivables re-reported the alleged debt after it had received Yasin’s dispute letter, they failed to list the account as ``disputed by consumer,” despite being required to do so by the Fair Debt Collections Practice Act.

Yasin seeks actual and statutory damages, plus attorney fees and a declaration Alliance One Receivables violated the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. He is represented by attorney Andrew Margolies of Margolies Law Office in Dallas.
