HOUSTON — A former employee is suing a law school, alleging discrimination due to his race and gender.
Joseph Kelly Plumbar of Harris County filed a lawsuit Jan. 15 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against the South Texas College of Law, alleging race and gender discrimination.
According to the complaint, Plumbar was employed by South Texas in December 2012, and was responsible for many areas, including monitoring expenditures, vendor relations and negotiating expenditures. The suit states the plaintiff did his job well, but was discriminated against by the defendant and its agents.
On one specific date, the suit says, Plumbar was accused of being late to work, and on another he was accused of not following instructions properly. He was reduced to a part-time position in July 2014, but without any scheduled hours, after which he was constructively terminated, the lawsuit states.
Plumbar seeks damages for lost wages, front and back pay, emotional pay, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, as well as medical and legal fees. He is represented by attorney Janeri Jael Rivero of the Law Offices of Janeri J. Rivero in Houston.
