BEAUMONT - An Orange County woman is suing a Beaumont motorist, alleging negligence for injuries she says she sustained in a vehicle collision.

Laura Dyess of Vidor filed a lawsuit Jan. 19 in Jefferson County District Court against Cedric Tyrone Winfield of Beaumont, alleging negligence and negligence per se.

The suit states on July 17, 2014, Dyess was traveling southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Beaumont when Winfield, traveling northbound on the same street, struck Dyess' vehicle. The suit says Winfield was negligent in failing to control his speed, failing to keep proper lookout, driving carelessly and failing to pay attention, failing to observe traffic signals, failing to maintain safe distance and other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result, the complaint alleges, the plaintiff suffered personal injuries and property damage and sustained physical pain and mental anguish, impairment, medical expenses, lost wages and loss of earning capacity.

Dyess seeks monetary relief between $500,000 and $1 million, interests and court costs. She is represented by attorney Ryan Douglas White of Brian Loncar & Associates in Beaumont.
