Longview woman accused of negligent driving

Crash

BEAUMONT – Three Vidor residents are suing a Longview woman for alleged negligent driving, which they claim caused severe injuries in an accident.

Mark Mouton and Kristina Williams filed a lawsuit, individually and next of friend of Bryce Smith, a minor, on Jan. 13 in the Jefferson County District Court against Terrie Baker, citing negligence while operating a motor vehicle and violation of the Texas Transportation Code.

According to the complaint, Mouton was driving a vehicle occupied by Williams and Smith on Jan. 22, 2014, on the Interstate Highway 10 feeder road when they were struck from behind by a vehicle driven by the defendant. They allege that the defendant had a duty to drive at a safe speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and follow traffic signals. The plaintiffs claim to have sustained serious and personal injuries as a result of the accident, as well as medical expenses, lost wages, property damage and mental anguish.

The plaintiffs seek damages in excess of $200,000, but not more than $1 million, pre- and post-judgment interest, court costs and a trial by jury. They are represented by Ryan C. Scott of The Scott Law Firm PLLC in Beaumont.
