GALVESTON — A crew member is suing the owners and operators of the ship Noble Globetrotter I, claiming he was injured performing his duties in the service of the vessel.

Shane Morgan filed suit against Noble Drilling Services Inc. and Noble Drilling (U.S.) LLC. in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas on Jan. 29, alleging negligence.

Morgan claims that on Dec. 24, 2013 he was seriously injured while working aboard the vessel when instructed to lift heavy equipment in a confined place. He allegedly sustained injuries to his neck, back and legs requiring surgery. The suit states that Morgan was unable to return to duty following his surgery and recovery.

Morgan claims the defendant failed to maintain the vessel, failed to take reasonable precautions for the plaintiff's safety, failed to provide safe working conditions and failed to provide for mechanical means for lifting heavy equipment.

He seeks damages for mental anguish, loss of earning capacity, lost earnings, permanent disfigurement, physical impairment, medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, and pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages reasonable under the circumstances. Attorney for the plaintiff is Francis I. Spagnoletti of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston.
