Ship owner blames charter companies for accident

GALVESTON — The owner of a shipping vessel is suing bareboat charter companies, alleging their negligence caused an accident. 

Secret Island Fisheries LLC filed a lawsuit March 9 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Ranger Offshore Inc. of Houston, Emerald O.V. Ltd. of Stafford and M/V Hammerhead, alleging negligence and failing to properly train crew.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 3, 2014, the vessel M/V Secret Island suffered damages of $653,000 after M/V Hummingbird collided with the vessel while it was moored at the Newport Terminal Dock.

Secret Island Fisheries seeks the $653,000, court costs and other relief as the court deems proper. It is represented by attorneys  Richard J.
