HOUSTON — A Washington state woman is suing a software company, alleging she was subjected to gender discrimination.

Mikki Dorsey filed a lawsuit June 27 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Cortex Business Solutions USA LLC and Cortex Business Solutions Inc., alleging gender discrimination, hostile work environment, sexual harassment and violation of the Texas Labor Code.

According to the complaint, Dorsey, who was hired as an account executive May 27, 2014, was subjected to discrimination based on her gender, sexual harassment, a hostile work environment, and retaliation during her employment with Cortex. The suit says shortly after she refused the sexual advances of a superior and complained to human resources she was terminated Feb. 2, 2015.

Because of this retaliation, which included termination of her employment, the lawsuit says Dorsey suffered loss of wages as well as emotional pain, mental anguish, suffering, inconvenience, loss of enjoyment of life and the potential for suffering in the future. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to protect her from gender discrimination and retaliation, subjected to unlawful and sexual harassment and disparate treatment because of her gender, failed to take prompt remedial action and failed to provide sufficient recourse, retaliated against her and terminated her employment.

Dorsey seeks a trial by jury, compensatory damages, attorney fees and legal costs, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest and such other relief to which she is entitled.
