HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing a Houston cleaning business and its owners, alleging failure to pay overtime wages.
Nury Damaris Ponce Zuniga filed a lawsuit July 14 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Signature Avenue Cleaners LLC, Signature Park Avenue Cleaner, Inc., Munira Ali and Nizar Ali, alleging they violated the Texas Minimum Wage Act.
According to the complaint, between August 2013 and September 2015, Zuniga regularly worked for an hourly rate of $7.25 and for more than 40 hours per week but she did not receive the required minimum wage for all hours worked.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed pay the required minimum wage and overtime compensation and continued to fail to pay the legally mandated minimum wage and overtime compensation even after Zuniga raised concerns regarding her pay.
Zuniga seeks trial by jury, unpaid wages plus liquidated damages, interest, legal costs, attorney fees and such other relief to which she is justly be entitled. She is represented by attorneys Gabriela Vega of Equal Justice Center in Dallas, and Philip J. Moss of Equal Justice Center in San Antonio.
