Motorist blames trucking business, driver for causing crash

Car accident 21

GALVESTON — A Fort Bend County motorcyclist is suing a trucking business and driver, alleging the driver's negligence caused a crash that injured the plaintiff.

Thomas Scott filed a lawsuit Aug. 16 in Galveston County District Court against Justin Van Sant and Trans-Tech Logistics Inc., alleging Trans-Tech negligently entrusted the motor vehicle to an incompetent driver.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 7, 2014, Scott was traveling southbound on his motorcycle in the 600 block of Pederson Road in Fort Bend County, while Van Sant was traveling in a dually truck owned by defendant Trans-Tech. Coming from the opposite direction, the suit says, Van Sant attempted to make an improper left turn putting him directly in front of Scott's path and causing a collision.

The lawsuit states Scott was seriously injured, leading to medical expenses, pain, mental anguish and lost wages. The plaintiff alleges Van Sant failed to operate the vehicle safely, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to timely apply his brakes.

Scott seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, plus pre- and post-judgment interests, costs of court, and all other relief. He is represented by attorneys John Arthur Daspit and Evan N. Kramer of Daspit Law Firm in Houston.
