HOUSTON — A Harris County maritime worker is suing his employer and ship operators, alleging their negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Jonathan Machuca filed a lawsuit Nov. 6 in Harris County District Court against FMC Technologies Inc., Hess Corp., Hess Equatorial Guinea Inc. Seadrill Americas Inc., et al, alleging they failed to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 7, 2014, Machuca was employed by FMC working aboard the defendants' vessel, West Esperanza. The suit says he was injured while moving a heavy cable without proper assistance.

The lawsuit said the injury led to disfigurement, past and future medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish and loss of earning capacity. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide adequate manpower, failed to provide reasonable precautions for his safety and failed to provide maintenance and cure benefits.

Machuca seeks trial by jury, monetary relief of more than $1 million with interest and all other relief to which he is justly entitled. He is represented by attorney John C. Grazier of Houston.
