Captain blames harbor tugboat owner for injuries

Tugboat 01

GALVESTON — A captain is suing a Galveston harbor tugboat owner, alleging negligence led to the plaintiff suffering injuries.

Rick Ledge of Galveston filed a lawsuit Dec. 9 in Galveston County District Court against G&H Towing Company alleging the harbor tugboat owner failed to safely operate its vessel within the channel.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 12, 2014, Ledge was captaining the vessel Orion 2506 at a dock within the ITC Terminal in Pasadena. The suit says suddenly the defendant's motor tug Zeus created a large wake in a no-wake zone. As a result, the lawsuit states, Ledge hit the the rear bulkhead and door jam.

The suit says Ledge, who was in the wheelhouse, suffered severe injuries, physical and mental pain, medical expenses and loss of earning capacity. The plaintiff alleges G&H Towing failed to abide by the no-wake zone, failed to control the Zeus' speed and failed to keep a proper lookout.

Ledge seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs of court and all other equitable relief. He is represented by attorneys Darrell A. Apffel, Lauren F. Arisco and D. Blake Apffel of Apffel Legal PLLC in League City.
