HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing a a sporting goods retailer, alleging the defendant's negligence caused injuries to her child.
Yesenia Gonzales, individually and as next friend of a minor child, filed a complaint April 6 in Harris County District Court against Academy Ltd., doing business as Academy Sports + Outdoors, alleging failure to inspect and maintain the premises.
According to the complaint, on July 27, 2015, the plaintiffs were business invitees at the defendant's store at 10375 N. Freeway, Houston, to purchase goods. The suit says a loose wooden board fell and struck the minor child on the head, causing injuries that required medical attention.
The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to properly install the wooden board.
Gonzales seeks trial by jury, monetary relief between $100,000 and $200,000 and all other just and proper relief. The plaintiffs are represented by attorney Joshua Avelar of Law Offices of Domingo Garcia LLP in Houston.
