HOUSTON — A Houston woman is suing a local hospital, alleging negligence caused injuries to the plaintiff.

Jana Baltrip filed a complaint July 5 in Harris County District Court against Memorial Hermann Health System, doing business as Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, alleging the hospital operator negligently provided defective chairs to visitors and patients.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 26, Baltrip was a visitor at Memorial Hermann when she sustained severe injuries when the chair she was sitting suddenly collapsed and fell to the floor. Baltrip says she has suffered loss of earning capacity, medical expenses, physical impairment and disability.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to repair the chair before placing them out for patients and visitors and failed to warn visitors of the broken chair.

Baltrip seeks trial by jury, monetary relief of between $200,000 and $1 million, pre- and post-judgment relief and and all appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney Mark B. Levin of Stern Law Group in Houston.
